 Listening Comprehension

 I can understand the main idea in short simple messages and presentations on familiar topics.  I can understand the main idea of simple conversations that I overhear.  (Interpretive Listening)

 Students can …

1.  Understand short and simple fiction and non-fiction texts when read to by answering questions orally or in writing.
2.  Understand directions up to 2-3 steps that are not accompanied by gestures or repetition.
3.  Understand main ideas and some details of grade level content: short classroom conversations; short oral presentations, brief announcements, short fictions (folk tales, fables and fairy tales) and short and simple poetry.
4.  Understand geographic location of familiar cities or countries.

Speaking

I can participate in conversations on a number of familiar topics using simple sentences. I can handle short social interactions in everyday situations by asking and answering simple questions.  (Interpersonal Communication)

I can present information on most familiar topics using a series of simple sentences.  (Presentational Speaking)

Students can…

1.  Ask and answer questions (who, what, where, when, why)
2. Describe familiar objects, animals, places and people using short and simple sentences.
3.  Describe own feelings and feelings of others using short and simple sentences.
4.  Create and/or engage in a simple dialogue related to a business transaction or exchanges such as at a restaurant, in a store, etc.
5.  Provide information about themselves using 5-7 sentences.
6. Invite and make plans about where to go and/or what to do on the weekend.
7.  Engage in a short conversation about past activities and/or events.
6.  Ask and explain the location of different cities, using a map of Iran.

Reading Comprehension

I can understand the main idea of short and simple tests when the topic is familiar. (Interpretive Reading)

Students can…

1. Understand the main idea and a number of details when reading for information such as current events, sports events, or environment.
2.  Identify main characters, setting, problem and solution in a story; put events in sequence; identify cause and effect.
3.  Identify cause and effect in a short passage.

Writing

I can write briefly about most familiar topics and present information using a series of simple sentences.  (Presentational Writing)

Students can…

1.  Fill out forms (name, address, birth date, nationality, grade level, etc.
2.  Write a short and simple paragraph about themselves, or others: physical and personality traits, hobbies, likes and dislikes, etc.
3.  Use punctuations (period, exclamation and questions marks) appropriately.
4.  Write a short report on a familiar topic starting to use some connected sentences.
5.  Write simple sentences using “because”, “but”.
6.  Write simple thank you notes.
7.  Write simple notes for Nowruz, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
8.  Summarize something learned in class in a short paragraph.
